Dr Allan Kalamir

Allan Kalamir, a Fairvale High School old boy, completed a (Medical) Science degree in 1993 at the University of Sydney with a major in Neuroanatomy before commencing postgraduate studies at the Sydney College of Chiropractic (which amalgamated with Macquarie University during  that time).

As a postgraduate student at Macquarie University he began lecturing in Anatomy, Physiology and Myofascial techniques at a tertiary level. He also has a background in Botanical Medicine, and has lectured extensively to Naturopaths at two of Australia’s leading Naturopathic colleges.

He finished his Masters degree in Chiropractic in 1995 and then travelled extensively before settling in Croatia in 1996 to open a clinic in Zagreb. During that time he treated many patients who were casualties of the war, gaining much valuable experience in treatment of the disabled, and in rehabilitation of chronic injuries. He was also well known to UN peace keepers who would often drive well over 100 km from their bases in Croatia and Bosnia for treatment. He was an inaugural member of the Chiropractors Association of Croatia, and was well known to the public through his regular work in public relations through the media of television and radio.

He returned to Sydney in 1999 to open a clinic in his home town of Edensor Park, where he now resides with his wife Jelena and two children, Joshua and Lara. He was offered a teaching position at Macquarie University as a tutor in Diversified Adjusting Technique, and also as Consultant Lecturer in Temporomandibular Orthopaedics and Neurology. He is currently working on his PhD thesis titled “A randomised controlled trial of intraoral  myofascial therapy for chronic myogenous temporomandibular disorder”, which reflects his clinical specialisation in the conservative management of TMJ (jaw) disorders. He works closely with local Dentists and Orthodontists in the interdisciplinary management of these patients. His strong sense of ethics, academic background and adherence to no-nonsense, scientific evidence based models of care have served to bolster the image of Chiropractic among local doctors who have long held concerns about the safety and efficacy of Chiropractic. He routinely treats difficult cases, or those on a waiting list for surgery, many of whom manage to avoid an operation.

He has been an examiner of  candidates sitting for the Chiropractic Registration Board Exam in NSW and he has presented his academic research at several national and international conferences, most notably the World Federation of Chiropractic biennial congress in Portugal 2007, the Chiropractors Association Annual Convention in Canberra 2009 and the World Federation of Chiropractic biennial congress in Rio DeJaneiro 2011.

He is a member of the prestigious Chiropractic research organisation, the Macquarie Injury Management Group (MIMG), as well as a long standing member of the Chiropractors and Osteopaths College of Australasia (COCA).

While he considers his Chiropractic style to be an eclectic combination of many techniques, his preferences include the systems of Myofascial Release, Diversified and Sacro-Occipital Technic (SOT). He also holds an advanced certificate in Acupuncture.

His list of academic publications includes:
